Magic’s 2027 booster changes: keep the announcement with the right set
A practical reading of the October 5 announcement: God Packs, foil slots and a renamed booster, with current printings kept separate.
TCGIndex editorial · 2026-10-07
Start with the effective set
Wizards’ October 5 announcement starts these changes with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, the first set of 2027. Play Boosters become Booster Packs. Keep the announcement beside that set’s product information rather than treating it as a revised specification for every pack already on a shelf.
Separate the foil changes from the headline
God Packs are being introduced. Regular boosters lose foil commons and uncommons and the guaranteed foil per pack; Collector Boosters lose two foil commons and one foil uncommon. Wizards says MSRP will not change. That does not establish a retailer’s delivered price in your region.
Keep a familiar name attached to its printing
TCGIndex has separate entries for Jace, the Mind Sculptor in Masters 25, number 62, and Mythic Edition: War of the Spark, number WS3. The shared name does not make them the same collectible. Record the set, printed number, language and finish before choosing a comparison.
A useful product note
Save the official specification alongside the seller’s language, quantity and shipping terms. A changed pack design cannot promise a particular pull or a profitable opening. This article does not assign an unverified price to a future 2027 card.
